Privacy Policy
Stitch Organizer ("the app", "we", "us") is a cross-stitch project and floss-tracking app. This policy explains what information the app handles and why. In short: what you create stays on your device. The app has no accounts and does not send us your projects, floss stash, notes or photos. We receive anonymous usage analytics and, only if you use Pattern Import, the files you choose to import.
Information stored on your device
Everything you create in the app — projects, notes, floss stash, shopping lists, storage boxes, and any photos you attach — is stored on your device. We do not upload it and we cannot see it.
Photos and camera
The app asks for permission to use your camera or photo library when you add a photo to a project or photograph a pattern to import. Project photos stay on your device. A photo you choose to import is sent as described under Pattern Import.
Analytics
The app uses Google Firebase Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how the app is used so we can improve it.
- What is collected: anonymous usage events and screen views, app version, device model, operating system version, approximate country, and an anonymous app-install identifier. It also includes a few general descriptions of how you use the app, given as ranges rather than exact numbers (for example, roughly how many projects you have), the language the app is shown in, and which plan you are on.
- What is not collected: the contents of your projects, notes, floss stash, shopping lists, storage boxes or photos, or anything you type, such as names, labels or search terms — never the text. Your name, email, contacts, precise location and advertising identifiers are not collected.
- Who processes it: Google, under the Firebase Privacy and Security terms.
- How long it is kept: Google keeps this data for up to 14 months, then deletes it.
We do not use analytics for advertising or to identify you.
Pattern Import and AI processing
Pattern Import is optional. Nothing here happens unless you choose a file and confirm the import, and the app shows you a summary of this section before your first import.
- Your file leaves your device. The pages or photo you choose are uploaded to our server, hosted by Google Cloud, and read by Google's Gemini AI, which returns the pattern details. The reading does not happen on your device. Only what you choose is sent, never the rest of the pattern.
- What is read: floss codes and brands, stitch counts, fabric count, the pattern's size, a project name and any notes in the file. You review the result, and nothing is added to your projects until you confirm it.
- What is kept: we do not keep your file. Our server passes it to Google to be read and does not store it. The details read from it are kept on our server so that an interrupted import can be finished without reading the file again, and are deleted automatically, normally within about two days. Our database backups, which may include them, are kept for 14 days from when each backup is made and then deleted. They are linked only to a random identifier for your installation, not to you.
- Google's handling: Google processes the file for us under its Cloud data processing terms and does not use it to train its models. It may hold a request in memory for up to 24 hours. If its automated systems flag a request as possible misuse, Google may keep it for up to 90 days to check it, as those terms allow.
- What is never recorded: our records of an import hold only basic technical facts, such as whether it worked. They never include the contents of your file or anything read from it.
- Your installation identifier: to count imports fairly and prevent abuse, the app creates a random identifier on first use and checks that requests come from a genuine copy of the app. The identifier is not linked to your name, email or any account. If you need help with a purchase, the app can copy it, with the app version and your phone's system, for you to send us; we use it only to answer you.
Optional sign-in
You never need an account. If you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, you can use Pro and Pattern Import on your other phones and tablets.
- What we receive: an identifier from Apple or Google for your account and, if they share it, your email address (Apple may give a private relay address instead). We use them only to sign you in and to answer you if you ask for help.
- What stays on your device: your projects, notes, floss stash, shopping lists, storage boxes and photos. Signing in does not copy them anywhere.
- Moving to a new Android phone: Android keeps a sign-in key for the app in your Google account's backup, encrypted end to end, so the app can sign you back in on your new phone. Our server keeps only the public half of that key.
- Deleting your account: in the app, under More, then Account. This deletes your sign-in, the sign-in keys and the Pattern Import records linked to it, and our subscription service's record of you. It does not cancel your subscription: cancel that in your App Store or Google Play settings. Counts of how many imports a subscription has used are kept, linked only to the subscription, so limits cannot be reset by deleting an account.
Purchases
Paid plans are processed by Apple or Google; we never see your payment details. A subscription management service tells us whether your subscription is active, using your installation identifier, which is not linked to your name or email.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or share your data for advertising.
- We do not show advertisements.
- We do not require an account. We do not collect your name or contacts, and we receive your email only if you choose to sign in and Apple or Google shares it.
Why we use this information
We use analytics because we have a legitimate interest in improving the app, and Pattern Import data to provide the import you asked for. Our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries, under safeguards provided in their terms.
Retention, deletion and your rights
What you create lives on your device: delete it in the app, or uninstall the app to erase it all. Pattern Import data is deleted automatically as described above. If you signed in, you can delete your account in the app at any time, as described under Optional sign-in.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data about you, or to object to its use. Because the data we receive is not linked to your identity, we may need your help to find it. To make a request, email us at the address below; the steps are on Delete your data. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Stitch Organizer is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date.
